This year Alumni Healthcare held a Virtual AAPPR Exhibit in lieu of attending the conference in Las Vegas, NV. We created a survey and gathered data from over 100 AAPPR members allowing us to take a look at how the current pandemic has affected several healthcare facilities throughout the nation. Below were some of our findings.
Roughly 94% of those surveyed were affected by the pandemic in some way. The main two reasons these healthcare systems were affected were due to a decrease in the volume of services which slowed recruitment efforts and the fact that onsite interviews were halted and replaced with virtual interviews.
The main specialties that saw decreases during this period were: Family Medicine/Primary Care in an Outpatient Setting, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia/CRNA, and Urology. In contrast, there was an uptick in the need for Critical Care Intensivists and other providers that could assist in the hard hit ICU’s. 25% of contacts surveyed said that they would most likely have to rely on locums providers, when operations started to ramp back up. The most often used specialties for locums in the last 12 months were: Hospitalists, Psychiatrists, Cardiologists and Surgery/Surgery Subs.
The healthcare industry is currently facing numerous challenges during this period. As we gather more data from our clients and healthcare providers, we are able to provide a better service and shift our recruiting focus and efforts appropriately.
