Turmoil in the Physician Recruitment World Continues as the Holidays Approach

As unfortunate as it is to say, the turnover and dissolvement of physician recruiter roles continues to persist. It seems that on a weekly basis, physician recruiters are reaching out to me directly letting me know that their positions have been eliminated or they have been let go. This has been happening over the course of the year and its unfortunate that it is continuing into the holiday season.

Why is it happening?   Health System administrators are continuing the trend of moving provider recruitment under talent acquisition and this is wreaking havoc on the previously esteemed roles of provider recruitment. There needs to be more impactful advocation of these roles from the regional and national groups.

When will it end?   We have seen at least one large health system convert back to the original model of having Physician Recruitment operate autonomously from Talent Acquisition, which shows a positive trend for the future, however a timeline is not easy to predict. Some industry leaders believe that this realization will happen anywhere from 6 months to a few years.

Is there a Silver Lining?   If there is any positive insight to glean from this unfortunate trend, it is that Physician Recruiters are Resilient! My dozens of conversations this year with recruiters that have been thrown into uncertainty (with little or no warning), has shown the never give up mindset. Also, their ability to network is ingrained in their DNA and has shown that they will not lay dormant for long. Your support network is alive and well, lean it them/us.
